DISCUSSION CIRCLE GUIDE — 60 MINUTES

PURPOSE
Create a thoughtful space where a book becomes a doorway to observation, reflection, shared meaning, and one proportionate next movement.

COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS
Speak from personal experience.
Sharing is invitational.
Listen for understanding.
Allow silence.
Protect confidentiality within the limits stated by the host.
Ask before offering advice.
Preserve another person’s dignity and privacy.
Keep the gathering within its educational and reflective purpose.

0–5 MINUTES — ARRIVAL
Welcome readers. Name the book, section, and purpose. Invite one quiet breath or brief arrival word.

5–10 MINUTES — OPENING
Read the opening ritual. Remind the circle that participants may pass on any question.

10–20 MINUTES — RETURN TO THE TEXT
Read one short selected passage. Ask:
What did you notice?
Which word, image, or turn remained with you?
What does the passage actually show before we interpret it?

20–38 MINUTES — GUIDED CONVERSATION
Choose two or three questions:
Where did you experience recognition?
What became more complex or precise?
Which tension deserves to remain open?
What perspective did another reader help you see?
Where does the text invite responsibility, boundary, compassion, or courage?

38–48 MINUTES — PRIVATE INTEGRATION
Offer quiet writing time:
What do I understand now?
What remains open?
What is one next movement proportionate to my present capacity?

48–56 MINUTES — VOLUNTARY SHARING
Invite one sentence from each person who wishes to share. Receive contributions without fixing, ranking, or interpreting them.

56–60 MINUTES — CLOSING
Read the closing ritual. Name the next gathering or reading interval. Thank the circle.

FACILITATOR NOTE
Educational reflection is distinct from clinical care, psychotherapy, legal advice, crisis response, or spiritual direction. When a concern exceeds the circle’s scope, pause and connect the person with an appropriate qualified resource.
